ISO 27001 is a globally recognized industry standard for information security management systems (ISMS). In 2022, ISO released a new version of the standard, ISO 27001:2022. The new version has significant changes from its predecessor ISO 27001:2013.

From 114 controls in 11 categories to 94 controls in 4 categories, ISO certifications also require upgrade to the new version. All ISO 27001:2013 certifications must be upgraded to ISO 27001:2022 by October 31, 2025. Starting November 1, 2025, old certifications will no longer be valid and the organization will have to start all over again with Stage 1 and Stage 2 audits to obtain a new certification. If you have an ISMS with the ISO 27001:2013 certification, you must upgrade it before the due date.
